Hi
I have an 08 LS Cobalt with power locks.
One day, about two months ago, I left the drivers side window down and it rained and ever since then the power lock buttons on the drivers side wont work at all and the buttons on the passenger side work on and off. Sometimes if I press unlock on the passenger side it would unlock and then lock back automatically by it self.
Also since then the keyless remote has been screwed up. I have to hold the unlock or lock buttons down anywhere from 2 - 5 seconds before the car will unlock or lock.

Is this a common problem? what should I do?

I should mention the front passenger side speaker has since stopped working about a month ago, not sure if that is related to it.

Probably all related to your rain incident. More than likely changing the door switched from the drivers side will fix your power door lock problems. As for the speaker you will need a new one also but go with after market Pioneer or Sony or whatever you can find in 6½" they will all be better than OEM.

Remote KeyFOB, have you tried second keyFOB to see if you get same results? If second remote works good, you know battery or button pad is worn out in first.

Welcome to the forum, Vitalsigns!

It looks like Coby7 has already given you some great advice. Unfortunately, I'm limited in my trouble-shooting abilities. However, if you had wanted for me to ever check into warranty or recall information, or if you were working with a dealership and wanted for me to check into anything, I'm here. Let me know via private message (or I can send you my email address).

Thanks Sarah
I will be stripping the door panels off this weekend and checking the speaker wiring and door switch to see if I can find anything.

I forgot to mention, I changed the battery in the remote and it still continues to behave the same. The alarm and trunk button respond immediately though, just the lock and unlock buttons are slow. I also checked out the buttons and circuit board in the remote and they look fine, no signs of wear down. I think it may have something to do with the power locks in the car.

I repair remotes as a pass time and that is the biggest complaint. Having to press hard or long on lock and unlock. This is usually caused by the carbon being worn off the back of the button. This is where I do this for cheap fix.

Try the other remote...

The speaker will be fried just so you know...
