My 2005 Cobalt is just at 81,000 miles and I bought it brand new. This morning a light on the panel came on and the icon was a lit up TC with a slash through it. The check engine light was also on. A message popped up that said "Power Steering Control." When I tried to drive, I could barely turn the wheel an inch. There is also a slight jerk with I go back and forth. Just to put this out there, it's not power steering fluid or a recalled part. The same exact thing happened to me several years ago and at that time they said it wasn't fluid. Also recently there was a recall on the power steering but that was fixed in December 2010.

I no longer have a warranty on the car and I am paying for this myself. I would like to own if anyone has had an issue like this and wanted to get an idea of how much it will be to repair it. It didn't have to be exact. Just a rough estimate.

Your problem sounds very similar to mine, but I've got only 49,000 miles and also just had the power steering motor replaced. The NWI and south Chicago service depts have no idea. The TCM was replaced, but didn't fix anything. The service depts pretend they've never encountered this. Any luck so far?
