So ive been reading up on the web and i see some ppl are having problems of wheels flying off because of breaking struts due to possibly over tightening or under tighten, not having hub centric rings, vibrations while braking.

what i wanna know is that what is the correct poundage for torquing them done, i have rims and hub centric rings and have aftermarket lugs and it vibrates when i brake should i be watching them and checking them once a month? does anyone have this problem?

Theres also some clips that need to be removed on the front when installing aftermarket wheels. I had that problem with my Old Enkeis on my balt where I broke 2 lugs on one wheel and 3 off hte other and it all happened like 2 days after I had the wheels on it. Local tire shop fixed for free cause I had them install them on the car!!!! I got all new studs on the front and new lugs al lthe way around due to the key not fitting. Prolly have to take the clip off all four on the four wheel disc cars

ya i had to take the clips off when i first put my rims on and then i put hub centric rings on them bout a week later. but i just talked to my dad and he said it was from over tightening the nuts on the studs and that if i torqued them to 90 like scagnetti76 said i shouldnt worry cuz i have the rings on so i went and torqued them down so i feel better haha

ya some people over tighten the wheels to the point that you can break the studs(anyone thats seen unique whips know what i mean) so its always best to check the proper torque specs

I've broken a couple studs...2 on the Cobalt and a couple on another car. Recommended is 100ft lbs I believe...it's in your manual if you look through the index.

I still just do it without my torque wrench...I have a nice Crafstman one and have only used it once or twice for tranny work on my old Saturn.

The vibrating can be caused by multiple things...lug nuts too tight, brake rotors being bad, alignment, or those little clips (which you said you removed). How do your pads and rotors look?

good i mean my car has 20,000 miles on it, its an 08 so it cant be the brakes i never had them alligned only cuz it only vibrates when i brake

x2. Cobalts are notoriously known for having warped rotors from the factory.

:roll: they don't come warped from the factory..
They are just made of cheap metal that warps easily..
really how can i check to see?
Just have them turned.. Its like 15 bucks! Especially if you just like take them into them. All you have to do is take off the wheels and then undo the 2 15M bolts on the rear side of the calipers. Then slip the caliper off and the disks will come right off!

Yeah, my brakes have been bad since shortly after I bought the car (bought it with 12k miles on it in June 07)...it now has 34k miles on it and I've just dealt with them until now. I have a set of Powerslots and Hawk performance ceramic pads to put on, but I just need to find time to do it...plus I would like to get some ss brake lines before I do it so it can all be done at once.

Brakes are horrible from the factory...just very cheap quality. Any aftermarket will be better. I would almost suggest saving the money you would spend to have them turned as it will likely happen again. I would buy a cheap set of Centric blanks from TireRack or somewhere else...You can get a set for $100 shipped roughly and they'll be so much better than stock.
