I discovered something that I haven't seen on any other thread, so thought I'd pass it along. This relates to the passenger side; I assume it would also be true of the driver's side. After you get the long bolt out of the rear control arm bushing, removing the cage nut is EASY - well, sort of. No need to drop the subframe, no need to cut a hole in anything. The nut is held in a sheet metal box, and the open side of that box faces the center line of the vehicle. If you jack your vehicle high enough and get underneath, you can barely look into that box. Over toward one side of the opening is a small metal "finger" pointing downward, and it is what prevents the nut from sliding out. I was able to reach in with a screwdriver and bend that finger up far enough to slide out the nut. Hope that helps somebody not go through all the work I did before I discovered the simple solution.

I don't get it. Why would you want to remove the cage nut. Did you strip it. You're going to need it there when you put the bolt back in. Maybe I'm just lucky but so far I've changed 5 of these on 3 different Cobalts and not once did the nut turn in the cage or strip or break.
