Lost my key to my 2007 Chevy Cobalt had to have a locksmith come and replace the lock and I also got a new ignition when the locksmith tried to start it it would not start we think it is because there are some security features that need to be bypassed does anybody know anything about what I can do to make my car start I'm very frustrated it's been months of not having a vehicle I don't know much about cars so this sucks?

I don't know what year they started but at some point you needed a key with a chip in it for it to work. Our '05 does not have this so a hardware store key works just fine. But on our '08 that did not work. The hardware store key will open the doors, but not start the car. I would bitch to the 'locksmith' that did not know or did not tell you that a special key was needed. Of course the chip key is very expensive compared to the hardware store key but it is necessary. And may be required to be programmed to the vehicle.

I would have done it through the dealer. They have to program and verify everything. My husband had quite a similar situation and did it through the dealer.
