Hey everybody,

The CD Player in my 2009 Chevy Cobalt stopped working.

I see the same radio unit I have in my car available for purchase on eBay for relatively cheap ~$50.
I want to replace my radio with another stock radio. I want to use another stock radio because I don't particularly want to mess around with a wiring harness, and I like the stock radio, I just want one with a working CD Player.

Is this repair as simple as unplugging the old one, and plugging a new one in? Are these radios VIN locked? If so, about how much does it cost to have a dealer unlock the radio?

You can often find these unlocked on ebay if you search. Anybody with a TechII can mate the new radio to the BCM. Just make sure it's the same part number.

If you cant get it unlocked from your seller, it is a 3-5min job to bond it at your local ???
Expect to pay a min charge of say 1hr labor. And there are many radio/sterio shops that can do this too.
Still a 3-5 min job and expect to pay a min of ~ 1hr @ 1/4 - 1/3 GM dealership 1 hr charge.
