My SS is a joy to drive. However, shifting is a bit of a workout. For example, shifting from first to second almost feels like I have to force the shifter from 1 down to 2. You can almost say it stops right before second gear and knocks into second gear. Before you ask, yes my foot is all the way down on the clutch. Is there a treatment I can use to make shifting smoother? The car only has 53k miles on it and the owner before me pretty much babied the car. I know some performance transmissions have a little rougher of a shift but I feel this is a little extreme.

No, that doesn't sound normal. Check the shifter cables, they might be binding or are corroded. Also might be worth changing the transmission fluid. It's cheap and simple enough.

If you see metal/brass shavings in the fluid, you might have a more serious problem. I believe Dexron VI is recommended.
