Don't believe the numbers these filter companies spit out. Not just eBay brands, but big names like K&N, Injen and others. It's going to take more than $70 to pick up 10-15hp on an NA build.

On a stock tune, an intake alone might give you a horsepower or two at the expense of a loss of low/mid range torque. If you want to play with your intake at a low cost, maybe consider a K&N drop-in? Same kind of gain, minus the sound.

I've currently got an Injen CAI, ZZP midlength header w/200 cell cat and a GMPP catback on a stock tune. If I gained 10hp on all that I would be quite pleased.

Ah! A noise generator. You may gain up to 10hp, but whats their torque gain? Just as I thought, not shown. If that spyder outfit can show you a BHP chart of that intake versus a stock air box on either a flowbench or engine dyno, then I would get one, otherwise, they just lie about a number that doesn't exist in engine power.

Now, if you added a bigger throttle body, intake manifold, and full exhaust, then I would believe those numbers. Companies will do whatever they can to sell you their product, it may not be a lie, but if they can show you paperwork of their product proving their testing and numbers, then I would be allover it. Chances are, spyder is not accurate.

I would agree with Plain Jane, K&N has the most in R&D in their air filters, since all they do is filters. They offer best warranty hands down as long as you do the correct maintenance to their products (not over oiling their filters, which in liability of the owner damaging sensors and engine components). The air intake system is an upgrade, but your gonna hear it more than feel it. If I had to get that intake above, I would at least swap the cone filter to a k&N filter cone or AEM dryflow. If you want more MPG, go with K&N's drop in replacement, $40 for 1-3 more mpg.

Pfft.

Name brand intake that does the same thing as the off brand intake.

The gains to be had on the more expensive one compared to the knock off is next to nothing. If you've gotta have it on a dyno to notice the difference, it isn't worth it.

Buy that. OR, buy a K&N drop-in, and a ZZP intake tube. Same gains. Done and done.

I made 139WHP/158WTQ with a ZZP intake/EBay catback on a dynojet. My car is an auto as well.

Yay, power.

I meant wasting your money on the name brand part doesn't mean it's better.

Or going to give you more "gains".

Because if you believe that and their amazing dyno charts.

wellllll...

I think we all know dyno charts for these things are exaggerated, regardless of brand. I remember reading my Injen claimed to add 17 torque. Wishful thinking I suppose.
If that was the case, I'm angry at my dyno numbahs :(

k&n's CAI is a short ram with a heat shield so you wont have to worry about water unless you drive through lakes.
