Any time that I'm in a position where I'm going to be hearing more car sounds (drivethrough, stopped in traffic beside the divider) I can hear this squeak when I'm engaging/taking off in first. It doesn't sound like a throw out bearing, and I'm not convinced that it has anything to do with the clutch/transmission. Although I'm wondering if maybe the pivot point for the fork would make noise in a higher mileage Cobalt (I'm just shy of 300,000km).

Something I just remembered as well, about 6 months ago every time that I shut the car off I'd hear a little squeak as the engine comes to a complete stop. That's with the transmission in neutral and foot off the pedal. That ended up going away on it's own, never to be explained.

The belt has been changed recently, but that's it.

This upcoming weekend I was planning on switching over to my summer tires, and maybe in the process I could pop the serp belt off to see if I still get the noise with none of the accessories spinning. Good idea or no?
