I had that system in my car and redesigned it, added a return port to the sender unit and used a corvette filter with the internal fuel regulator(like you use in an ls swap) the return from the filter goes back to the new port at the tank. all that is in the tank is the pump and sender. this allows 1 pressure line to the fuel rail and #30 goes to the canister. i did cut the old filter (37) open and found a very nasty fuel filter!
