well, as the title states, i think that i am ready for nitrous. i dont want to waste money on a 3k turbo or even try to bother with a sc so nitrous seems like the way for me. i read IMA sticky but i still have a few questions.

im definately getting a wet shot. whats the biggest shot i would be able to run without causing damage? is 75 too big?

will i need any other mods to get the max potential out of a nitrous kit? my mods now are AEM cai, CA v1 header, zzp dp, and soon to have a catback.

thanks for the help as i am new to nitrous.

Honestly, you should at least build your motor a bit, before using nitrous, there was a guy with a 2.2 Cobalt on youtube who had no engine work done and he blew his intake manifold off,and also if you build up your motor you can at least be on the safe side, anyone who puts on a alternative way to get more power, usually end up blowing their motors from not even having new connecting rods, valve springs, retainers, cams, ect. What you have done to your car already is just the basic modding of what everyone does usually.I would like to use nitrous but I am going to build my motor to be safe.By all means though go with nitrous if you feel like you don't want to spend on a supercharger or turbo kit.problem is though I heard it adds up for refilling up the bottle and that right there could of been your turbo kit or supercharger. Its only my opinion and I am not forcing you to fallow my opinion, but its better safe then sorry.

I saw the video you are referring to. I believe his mistake was hitting the bottle off-the-line before the engine got revved up. According to the GM ECOtec build book 75 HP shot of nitrous on the 2.2 is the maximum you should go with a stock motor.

My experience with nitrous is on the 86-87 Buick GNs and T-Types. Everyone that I raced with that used nitrous had some type of problem within a year, from a blown head gasket (or gaskets) to a hole in a piston (or pistons).

The now infamous video on youtube happened because he sprayed off the line. He didn't hurt his motor at all but just the intake manifold. This happened because nitrous puddled in the manifold due to the low velocity of air in the manifold at those low RPMs. He swapped a new one on and drove the car home that day.

I say stick with a 50 shot. It's a nice kick in the pants. Just follow what I said in the write up about using a window and WOT switch and you will be just fine.

my buddy put a 100 shot in his LS1 there is a pretty good shop here in town. i am definately going to be safe with it and get the bottler heater, window switch and all the other gismos.

IMA - you seem to be a pretty reliable source so i thikn ill just go with a 50 shot. thanks.

btw i have the 2.4 =)

no it is not required but you could certainly pick up some extra ponies with one. The important thing is that it is a wet kit so the fuel will be added and you won't need to tune for that. The only thing you could do is pull a little timing through tuning to be a little safer but on a 50 shot you don't have to worry about that really. It will be safe.

no problem. I won't lie, tuning is a *****. lol I particularly hate tuning for nitrous, but a simple single stage wet shot is very easy to deal with and you won't need a tune.

I think a 50 shot on a cobalt should be idea. The internals seem like they would be able to hold up pretty well with a 50 shot

Nitrous is like a hot chick with an STD...you want to hit it, but you're afraid of the consequences.
