After driving about 8 miles or so of stop and go in-town driving, the car starts to kick when shifting. When this starts, the trans won't shift until about 4k rpm and than a hard firm kick like someone rear ended my car. The shifts seems to be a bit softer as the trans up shifts. No check engine light.
If I drive just to the freeway and do the 35 miles freeway commute to work, it doesn't kick on the streets. It needs a constant in-town stop and go drive.

About 92,000 miles. I bought the car in June of this year. I dont know the last time it was serviced.
Reason I ask is because there is a TSB about issues with the line pressure control solenoid getting metal shaving build up after the magnet in the pan gets overloaded. They revised the magnet design with the TSB and the position of the magnets in the pan.

Well, if it doesnt have a warranty, best thing to do would be to do the trans service, and the TSB update with the two magnet's. (ACDELCO Part # 29535617)

If that doesnt solve the issue, only other thing I could think of off the top of my head that would cause an issue like this is the TCC solenoid is attempting to lock the converter up at too low of a speed. Problem with both of these solenoids is that they are both internal, which means the trans would have to be removed and sent to a trans shop for repair.

But for the most part, if you are 95,000 miles and the trans has never been serviced, you are about 30,000 over your service interval. You will know if the trans has been serviced or not because the pan magnet will be square and overloaded with material, and the trans fluid will be dark and funny smelling, almost rotten smelling.

Of course that is if you do this yourself, otherwise id just take it to the dealer and have them do it. I think it costs about 200 bucks for a trans flush. If you do wind up doing it yourself, you will need 7 quarts of dexron VI

and id recommend having a new oil pan gasket on hand even though they are supposed to be removable, and you will need a new filter.

Will the dealer flush with trans fluid or trans flush than add the fluid?
I dont believe they use a tranny flush machine, as it is dangerous to do so on an older transmission. Usually its just a pan drop, and fluid/filter change.
