Sorry if in the wrong section, but I didn't really know where to put this.

For my class, I have to breakdown my VIN number and say what each individual digit/letter stands for.

I know what each number is meant to represent, but I cant find a website that will help break it down for me. (Mainly the 4th-8th digits).

I would appreciate any help with this.

Here is my VIN if anybody would like to help:

1 - United States
G - General Motors
1 - Chevrolet
A -
K -
1 -2 Door Coupe
5 -
F -
4 - Security Code
6 - 2006
7 -

1,2,3 would be what you already have: United States, General Motors, Chevrolet
4,5 is the model which would be cobalt
6 is some form of vehicle feature (1= 2 Door Coupe)
7 is some form of vehicle feature (I haven't found out what exactly for the 5)
8 would be the engine which would mean the F=2.2L if thats the engine you have and I believe so when I searched your vin.
9 is the security code but I don't fully understand what the 4 actually means
10 is the model year (2006)
11 reveals the assembly plant for the vehicle (7- Lordstown Ohio)
12-17 is the cars vehicle serial number

EDIT: Could be wrong on a few of them but this is from a quick search on google

Here is where I found out some more info http://www.(cobalt)(ss)(.)(net)/forums/08-10-ss-turbocharged-general-discussion-152/vin-decoding-167255/
I put parenthases around the websites name so that it could be seen, MODS delete that part if it's unacceptable and against any rules.

You could also go to a dealer if you have time and they sometimes have a little chart that describes all of this.
