So I was driving on the interstate today going at about 75 mph a few seconds later wasn't even paying attention I was going about 96 mph and start to smell something burning smelt like a burnt clutch but I have a auto. Didn't think anything of it i thought it was the clunker in front of me. When I got home I still smelt it and i started to check the engine. i started the car and started To hear a light knocking sound had to listen close so i shut it off .I then found that there was no oil in the motor at all dip stick was dry There is no oil leaking anywhere i can see. I was going to change the oil this week because last week I checked it and it looked like it was time for an oil change and the dic said 48% oil life. I have oil on the way just need to know what I should do would appreciate it.

The oil could just be low. If you checked it right after shutting the engine off, the majority could be up in the block. No sign of leakage is a good thing. Check the dipstick again now that it's cooled off.

I'd get oil in there first before changing the oil. Start it, if you still hear the knocking, have someone rev the engine up and see if you still hear knocking. If you do, it sounds like you may have spun a rod bearing from running too low on oil. No sense in doing an oil change if the rod bearing spun and you need a rebuild anyways.

I got 2 and a half quarts in there: now . it sounds a little better. But Im not sure if I heard a knocking noise or a normal noise.
When I put it in drive I heard a knocking noise loud and clear for 2 seconds and it went away drove it for 10 mins nothing stopped on the side of the rode let it cool down a bit then drove didn't make any knocking sound.
I did hear this weird sound when I'd let it slow down it got louder as i slowed down

I had a bad lifter that made a ticking sound in my 2000 Malibu. I changed it and the ticking went away. You could do the same.

All engines make some sort of noise, could be something in the bay hitting against something else.. or it could be worse.I heard a tick in mine and when I checked it out it was wires in the plastic covering tapping against the big plastic air intake.

Hope fully that's all it is. But during class I was just chilling in it and had it running I had my feet touching the wall next to the floor vents and I'd feel knock knock knock knock I hear it but I can nearly hear it for a few mins and its good.
Don't know if its just trying to adapt to the new and what ever was left old ass hell oil. Or what.

Only one thing came good out of this I'm stock exhaust was poping.
