so i have looked in the other forums and have not found the answer im looking for so dont say " omg we need to teach you how to use the search bar" or anything like that.

question is. im looking to either supercharge or turbo charge my cobalt ls 2.2. and insted of buying a kit of either, do you think it would be better or even possible to just do an engine swap from a SS 2.0 supercharge??

i always here people saying " oh its a 2.2 so you wont get much out of it as far as performance"

sorry if this has already been posted but i am curious and want your opinions or even know if this would work

THANKS!!!

I would just get a turbo or supercharger kit and go from there. A swap is very labor intensive and you would be better off if you had a complete donor car for all the parts that you would need for an engine swap.

just buy a kit. You can build the 2.2 engine to handle the power. just research or get someone to do it who knows what they're doing. Engine swap would be a huge waste of time and more costly/laborious. That's why nobody has done it.

Turbo kit and build FTW

Strengthen your internals. And buy a bolt on kit. Also, be ready to put a clutch and flywheel in your car because of the added power.

To do, say an L61 > LSJ swap, you have to:

take all the bodywork off the front of the car
Disconnect EVERYTHING
Unbolt Subframe/Engine/Transmission, place on trans jack
Lift car off subframe
Change Motor / Trans ( i dont know if say an LSJ will bolt to a F23)
Change ECU, reflash BCM, change engine wiring harnesses, pray you get it all right.
Clutch/ Flywheel/ Axles, Hubs / Spindles / anything else you might need to change
Install new motor
Hook up all lines, fluids, etc.
Check electronics
Retune / Reflash
Install bodywork.

Its not worth it

The only way it would be worth it is if you have a doner ss cobalt sitting in your yard.

The V8 one is also the RWD conversion that's been an ongoing project for like 4 years now, right? Or is there already a running drag Balt out there with one?

And I've seen an LSJ swapped into an Aveo before. Looked like a pain in the ass! CED had the car on display at HIN Chicago in 06 or 07, I think.
