Ya I just bought all of my gear and I will be putting it in tomorrow. Anything else I should know before the install.
not that I can think of...depending on which harness you got and which head unit of course. I think the above is pretty self explanatory. PM me if you run into trouble, i'll be working all morning but have my Iphone on me and I check this site pretty regularly. Good luck and post pics when you're all done!

What if you have the 5 speaker sound system installed with the Pioneer sub?? Can you still install a CD deck with this wiring harness and keep the factory amp and sub?? How would you wire the deck to use the amp??

go on crutchfield or PAC.com, there is another harness for the premium sound system which will retain everythiing you have with a new cd player. There will be only a few extra wires to connect, 1 for the amp turn on, etc. It's pretty simple, and each of the harnesses come with decent instructions.

I have a 2010 cobalt with Onstar and XM and on crutchfield, they say none of them fit my car. Which year is compatible with my car?

The 2009 and 2010 models should be the same. Put 2009 instead of 2010 and see what comes up.

Where did you guys get the dash kit for the 09-10?
Crutchfield should have, and eBay as well. I got mine from crutchfid when I ordered the gmac wiring interface.

I goes through the 5 pages of that VERY GREAT thread and no body seem to mention the other CHEAPER installation alternative? You can bought a 5$ "standard" wiring harness in any store that doesn't retain doors/warning chimes. Because actually you pay 70-80$ for the chime only. BUT, this is only true if you don't have OnStar.

I known your dealer or even some audio installers (Best Buy, etc.) may tell you need the "premium" harness because your airbag or your anti-thief system may stop working, but that's bullshit. The chime is the only thing you loose.

I think this is a good information that can prevent some peoples to pay extra 70-80$ in store because they don't know the other option.

I know some providers doesn't show the "standard" harness option when you do a search based on your Cobalt model, like METRA website is a good example. But this harness exist and is pretty easy to find actually on eBay and even in supermarket stores (Wal-Mart, etc.).

That's fine but I'd rather do things right. I owned a civic in the past, and I also cut lots of corners. I've learned that it's better to do things right the first time. Engineering also teaches you these habits lol. Not to mention PAC makes great car electronics accessories. Anyways wether or not you got the cheap harness or the PAC harness, the thread serves both purposes. It's relatively simple to substitute the PAC harness wiring instructions I mentioned with any universal harness. The main thing is Matching wire colors and getting the RAP voltage properly.

It's really up to you man, I bought my harness from crutchfield and I'm glad I did, because the first one they sent me was defective, didn't work at all. So I called them, their customer service is GREAT. They sent me out a new one right away and also refunded my shipping to send the defective one back. I've never dealt with these other guys so I couldn't tell you how reliable they are.

thanks man for the reply.. ya im not sure if i should risk it our just go crutchfield.. im leaning towards crutchfield cause i have dealt with them before and like u said there great but the option to get it 50 bucks cheaper was a lil shocking and caught my eye

When attempting to install my double din. I powered it on and it navigates through everything, and all features and options are working. I don't hear any sound though through the speakers. I hear static though on the radio. Any ideas to what could be going on?

The wire is max 1 amp, however, and in fear of damagin the new interface, i followed the instructions and put a relay on the interface's accessory wire and then connected the head unit's accessory to the relay, I went and got the relay's main power from a fuse in the fuse box (20a I believe) and it works like a charm.
Great how to... this only thing is that relay part...
do you think i need to do this?

I look into the manual for my head unit and its said
Current Consumption: less then 2.2A
which is more then 1A obviously

Do you have more info on how to do it or I should be ok?
